Hands that listen to the earth and intertwine with the leaves; every touch is a promise of wine. While time passes slowly in the fields, those hands transform the grapes into the future, continuing the story.
In this area of Vicenza, already famous for its DOC wines, the decision was made to move towards a new type of production: PIWI vines. These naturally resistant plants can be cultivated organically and are therefore also known as 'super organic'.
The land on which Tenuta Do Leoni stands has been in Giovanni's family for generations. Redeveloping and enhancing this area strengthens their emotional bond with it, keeping their connection to their origins strong.
Do Leoni is a historical territory and a transparent, shared project, year after year.
We chose the name Do Leoni to represent us: a business led by Giovanni and his wife Federica. The property has been restored to promote and share important values such as care and love for the land with younger generations (our 'two lions'). It is a land reborn to convey the value and beauty of production that respects and integrates fully with nature.
We are embracing the concept of ancient winemaking with a contemporary twist, recovering a naturally genuine taste by using innovative grape varieties grown right here in the Berici Hills. We are reviving ancient methods and integrating them with the latest expertise. Adopting an agro-sustainable approach that is respectful of the environment and oneself means being sensitive to both.
The pursuit of quality underpins all our choices.
The project was born from a spark, but its roots lie in land that has belonged to the same family for generations: a Palladian farmhouse nestled in the Vicenza countryside. It is precisely this connection with the land and natural vocation for growing vines that has enabled the project to flourish, with the aim of planting with confidence, harvesting with patience and cultivating with respect.
There are numerous sources that recall and confirm the link between these hills and wine production.
In the book Storia del Territorio Vicentino (History of the Vicenza Area) by Gaetano Maccà, dated around 1813, it says that Bugano Hill is famous for producing the best wines of the Berici Hills.
In their book Guida d'Italia dei Primi Turisti – Vicenza (Guide to Italy for Early Tourists – Vicenza ), Giovanni Chiampesan and Graziano Ramina quote the writings of two English tourists who travelled through the Vicenza area in the seventeenth century. They recounted:
“It was almost vintage time when we passed through this paradise, and it made my journey much easier, to see the trees ranged in order so far as one can see, to look on the vines embracing the elms, with such an incredible quantity of grapes, that they are covered more with purple, than green”
